More Trees to plant in 2026

Farmers in the Harden/ Galong area are keen to work with the local Landcare group to improve biodiversity and sequester carbon though environmental planting projects. For the past 2 years we have worked with the Graymont Carbon Reduction Fund to plant over 20,000 trees and shrubs on private farms in the area, with significant contribution from the farmers that make up the Harden Murrumburrah Landcare Group. This year's funding will enable us to continue into a third year, with a plan to plant another 10,000 trees in 2026. The plantings are in areas of critically endangered Box Gum Grassy Woodland. Stage 3 of this project in 2026 will also assist us to engage with local Aboriginal elders; seek help from experts in seed sourcing, collection and propagation; and support new seedling nurseries; as we work with the Graymont staff to develop a way of harvesting local seed and growing the plants locally for planting and rehabilitation projects in the future.
